Chapter 15 Family Stories of Sandra

Ft. Lauderdale Florida, (November 1967 to September 1968)

Ft. Lauderdale Florida, November 1967 to September 1968

Sandra told her parents she was dropping out of the University of Madrid.  Our father submitted an affidavit of support of Peter’s entry to the U.S. on November 13, 1967.  Peter arrived in New York in December 1967.  Below is the passport photo of Peter that was taken for his entry into the U.S.

That year, David was recovering from an LSD psychosis for which he had been hospitalized for two months, in November and December 1967.  Sandra and Peter were married in Fort Lauderdale on January 5, 1968.  For the next four months, David lived with his and Sandra’s parents at their home in the Imperial Point neighbourhood of Ft. Lauderdale.

David took an interest in Peter’s art, and appears in the photo below, with an abstract painting Peter had made of a cat.

David and Peter took casual employment in the area.  David worked as a stock clerk at a medical supply company and at Chris Craft, and at the food terminal, loading crates of vegetables picked by migrant workers onto trucks for transport north.  David took the photos below of Sandra and Peter outside our parents’ home in Ft. Lauderdale.

In May, David departed for Houston, Texas, where he secured employment as an x-ray clerk at the hospital and visited Dr. Kiralis, who was then teaching Blake studies at the University of Houston.  In August, David travelled to Cambridge, Massachusetts where he lived for a month and visited Pat before returning to resume his freshman year at the University of Toronto.
